We draw three related conclusions. Principle 3: Where a series of acts by the faithful create a pattern, it guides believers, especially if God appears to bless the narrated actions. As the case of believers serving in pagan courts shows, this holds even if no law verifies the actions. Principle 4: But isolated acts, such as Gideon’s use of the fleece, are not normative, especially if God does not approve them and if they cohere with no law. Principle 5: Where a narrative does not clearly commend
